MSc. Clinical Bio-Chemistry
Clinical BioChemistry
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
M.Sc Clinical Biochemistry was (2 year course) introduced in 2023 with a vision to act as an interface between clinical and non-clinical aspects of Biochemistry that aims to produce employable skilled manpower with sound technical persons in the field of diagnostic health care system. The Department offers a 4 semester PG programme in Clinical Biochemistry as Choice Based Credit System. With an intake capacity of 60 students, the course comprises of 20 Credits per semester. The Department welcomes the aspiring student to the field of understanding the Clinical aspects of biochemistry. We believe in providing an enriched learning environment and mentorship for students to generate skilled students for clinical research, employability and entrepreneurship. The department is set to strive to stimulate scientific inquiry through collaborative faculty student research activities supported by modern infrastructure and collaborations.
About the Course
M.Sc Clinical Biochemistry is a Postgraduate degree that provides students with a detailed understanding of Biochemistry in a clinical context. This program is designed to train students in biochemical analysis and techniques that are essential in diagnosing and treating diseases. The program combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to enable students to analyse clinical samples, interpret results and apply this knowledge to patient care.
The curriculum is designed to provide a thorough understanding of biochemical principles and laboratory procedures, including sample collection and handling, analysis, interpretation and reporting. The course offers practical training in modern biochemistry techniques and tools used in a clinical setting. The program includes a compulsory internship, which provides students with hands-on experience in clinical biochemistry laboratories.
The course aims to provide an advanced understanding of the investigation, diagnosis, management of patients and experience of the diagnostic techniques. They provide advice and interpretation of analytical results to other healthcare professionals such as clinicians, general practitioners and nurses. The Master’s course contributes to research studies aiming at improving understanding of the biochemical changes that occur in disease and the development of new treatments.
SCOPE
The scope of Clinical Biochemistry is both clinical and biochemical. Clinical biochemists work in close collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely diagnostic information that is essential for the effective diagnosis disease management. Clinical biochemists use chemical, biochemical and biological techniques to measure the levels of specific substances in body fluids and tissues, including hormones, proteins, enzymes and metabolic by-product.
