Biochemistry involves the study of compounds and their reactivity at a molecular level. To accomplish this feat, researchers must learn about the properties of compounds, structure and reactivity of molecules, characterization of structures, fundamental components of molecules, and the role that these play in biological systems. 

The main aim of the department has been to offer quality research and excellent teaching learning opportunities in the emerging field of Clinical Biochemistry. The course has been primarily designed to act as an interface between clinical and non-clinical aspects of Biochemistry. This course offers a full-fledged six months’ internship/hospital based project programme conducted at various national and international institutions.

Perhaps our most important resource are the people in our department, including faculty, and staff. We work in an intellectually vibrant and intensely collegial environment characterized by extensive interactions within the department and with other basic science and clinical departments at the school.  We have a diverse group of faculty members working in the field of Clinical Biochemistry and other allied areas. We are committed to the education of our graduate and postgraduate students and to the principles of diversity and inclusiveness.

Our postgraduate program builds on a strong research base to offer PhD program that cover the breadth of Biochemistry. We offer an excellent mentoring environment for all our students that not only provides scientific training but also career skills development and a supportive graduate student community.
